While leading Japan Photo Tours, I often remark on how the journey to the itinerary’s specified locations can yield as many, if not more, unforgettable photos as the destination itself. Chasing the light means being open to discovering photographic opportunities wherever they are. And I have been chasing the light in Japan and around the world for decades.

Tunnels in particular capture my interest Some people view tunnels in a strictly utilitarian manner, only a means of transportation, a conduit for connecting one location from another. In Japan especially, with so much untouched nature, the tunnels are small channels for cars and other vehicles to get people from Point A to Point B.

My colleagues and I see them as so much more. We are always chasing the light, and tunnels yield some of the most amazing manifestations of light balanced with the dark. An on some occasions, the light trapped in the tunnels and recorded on film yields images that border on unearthly. Those images, like the one attached to this newsletter, capture the mystical side of Japan, images that defy explanation and are clearly art.

Continuously I enjoy traveling with camera in hand all over, and I especially enjoy leading Japan photography workshops; I enjoy the company of fellow international photographers, and I am happy to show you anywhere in Japan, or abroad, that your heart or perception desires there's no limit! As an experienced educator in the visual arts, I always suggest and give technical advice, and explain the beginner's mindset to my fellow visual artists so they can create there own photographic art while on an adventure with me, then take and never forget how to use their newfound technique. And I guarantee every client has several individual unique images that are added to their personal galleries on every photographic adventure workshop vacation.
