Experience the Wonders of Steller's Sea Eagles, Red-Crowned Cranes, and More in Japan's Winter Landscape

I recently revisited my photographs from a Hokkaido Photo Tour, which showcased the island's stunning winter beauty—snowy mountains, shimmering plains, and tranquil lakes. Among these were captivating images of Hokkaido's wildlife, including the majestic Steller's Sea Eagle and elegant Red-crowned Crane. One image that stood out was of a solitary Steller's Sea Eagle, seemingly lost in thought amidst Hokkaido's frozen splendour. This moment reminded me of the joy I find in leading birding and wildlife photography workshops for over 25 years. It has been a rewarding journey to help fellow photographers connect with nature.
Embracing a "beginner's mindset," I looked back at my images with fresh eyes, revealing the deep engagement that transforms photography into a fulfilling art form.

Why Choose MY Hokkaido Photography Workshops in 2026?

Winter in Hokkaido offers unparalleled opportunities for photographers with iconic species like the Steller's Sea Eagle and enchanting wildlife such as the Ezo Sika Deer and Ezo Red Fox.

Birding Highlights:
- Observe Steller's and White-tailed Eagles soaring gracefully.
- Capture the beauty of Red-crowned Cranes during their stunning courtship dances.
-Spot and photograph the elusive Shima Enaga and dozens of other species, and only we Hokkaido locals know their habits by season.

Wildlife Encounters:
- Photograph Ezo Sika Deer in snowy forests.
- Spot the elusive Ezo Red Fox against the winter landscape.
-The Japanese weasel turns pure white during cold winters and can be challenging to find, but we have a high percentage of spotting and photographing them.
-The ezo red squirrel is a subspecies of the Eurasian red squirrel that can only be found in Hokkaido; some of these squirrels are giants among their species.

Landscape Photography
- Document Hokkaido's ethereal winter scenery, from coastlines to snow-covered plains.

Our workshops cater to all skill levels, providing personalized guidance to enhance your photographic artistry.

Secure Your Spot for 2026!

Shima Enaga is a very tricky bird to spot and photograph, but I can give you a 95% chance of having the opportunity to photograph them.

The Shima-Enaga are adorable birds.

Minimalist Hokkaido landscapes and power lines, I took this image just before sunrise; the night before, we had a cyclone bomb blizzard. Perfect conditions for minimalist photography.

Cyclone bomb blizzards make perfect conditions for Hokkaido minimalist photography.

Blakiston's fish owl is the largest owl on our planet, and I have been thrilled to spot and photograph them for over twenty-five years in Hokkaido.

Let's create stunning Hokkaido photographic masterpieces together in 2026!
