Are you ready to embark on an unforgettable journey into the wild heart of Japan?  My Hokkaido Photo Tours offer an incredible opportunity for photographers and nature lovers to capture stunning wildlife moments, including the majestic Red-Crowned Cranes, known as the snow ballerinas of the avian world.  During this workshop, we prioritize encounters with the Red-Crowned Cranes.  Watching their courtship dance is a breathtaking sight that rivals the elegance of any ballet performance.  You'll witness their ritualistic bows, hear their harmonious calls, and experience the thrill of their aerial leaps—all emblematic of their lifelong bonds.  Imagine the photographs you could capture as these magnificent birds express their devotion in such a graceful manner!

In addition to stunning crane photography, we delve into the natural wonders of the Kushiro region.  This area is not only home to a wide variety of wildlife but is also renowned for its breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, often rated among the best in the world.  Photographing these dawns over vast landscapes will enhance your portfolio and leave you with cherished memories.

Sunrises and Sunsets in Hokkaido are breathtaking, especially with the magnificent Hokkaido Sika Deer in the foreground.

As part of our adventure, we'll venture into Hokkaido's northwest to explore the crystal-clear lakes of Akanko, Kushiroko, and Mashuko.  These pristine waters are a photographer's dream against mountainous scenery in the backdrop.  But we won't just focus on nature; we'll also connect with the Ainu, the indigenous people of Japan.  Their rich culture, world-class wood carvings, and captivating performances will provide a unique and immersive experience.  You'll have the chance to photograph traditional art and partake in a spiritual journey through their dance and music, learning about their deep respect for the kamuy (gods or spirits).

The lakes in Hokkaido are some of the most pristine on our planet—wildlife winters there, including the Whopper Swans at this picture perfect spot.

Next, we'll head to Hokkaido's Pacific Coast for an exhilarating raptor photography session.  This region is home to the formidable Steller's Sea Eagles and the endemic White-tailed Eagles.  We will board a chartered vessel and get ready to capture breathtaking images of these powerful raptors in their natural habitat, hunting for fish on the pack ice.  There's nothing quite like the thrill of photographing these magnificent creatures as they spread their wings, clutching their prey amidst the stunning backdrop of Hokkaido's coastline.

Steller's sea eagles and white-tailed eagles share a perch on the pack ice, which they use as a fishing platform and for sleeping at night. During storms, they come ashore.

Take advantage of this opportunity to hone your photography skills while immersing yourself in Hokkaido's rich wildlife and vibrant culture. I'm sorry, but 2025 is fully booked.  However, the 2026 tour now has twin occupancy available.  Spots are limited, so secure your place today and prepare for the adventure of a lifetime.
